By many estimates, Oklahoma is second only to Missouri in number of puppy mills.
Positive regulatory changes become effective in November, but in the meantime, authorities are stepping up their efforts to curb the worst practitioners by all legal means possible. This is the happy next step to a horrible story from earlier this year (links to those are embedded in the link we’re providing). The two owners of a puppy mill that was raided earlier this year will stand trial for animal cruelty. Authorities who rescued the 59 dogs from Wesley Griner and Carolyn Vaughn’s property were appalled by the conditions the animals were forced to live in.Hopefully, full-scale prosecution of mill owners, in tandem with enhanced oversight from the stepped-up laws about to come into effect, will give other millers some pause when they think about the conditions their dogs are subjected to.
